Question:

How can I deter my cat from hopping on the kitchen counters?

I have already tried aluminum foil (he didn't care and laid down on it) I tried squirting him, I also put him right under the faucet when he went into the sink (he seemed to be content under there), I say no and put him down millions of times, I put lemon on the counter, which he hates, but it's dissipatesThere is nothing whatsoever on the island (his fave spot), so he isn't trying to investigateHe just site thereHe can go anywhere else he wants, but I find it so unsanitary for him to be on teh kitchen counters.any other ideas? We do have another cat who never bothers going on the counters since I told her no once.she's an angel. Thanks for any ideas!!!!!

Answer:

Yes, I have the same problemThe foil didn't help and squirting doesn't help since they don't get squirted when nobody sees themDouble-sided tape might helpIt seems to work but it's a pain in the a.r.s.eTry sticking several lengths of tape to a piece of paper and setting it on the counter so when he hops up there he'll end up with an annoying piece of paper stuck to himThe problem lies in the fact that my cats learned to avoid the paper (I couldn't possibly cover every inch of counter with it) or they would knock it off on to the floor, the little devils There's a product called something like 'Ssscat' that is just compressed air in a can with a sensorWhen it senses movement it shoots air toward the movementThat seems hard to work around though so I've never tried itAnother option is the 'Scat Mat' which gives a little zap like static electricity when anything makes contact with itThey are pricey like $50, so I've never tried that either Truthfully, I gave up and keep a spray bottle of dilute bleach to clean my counters with every time I need to prepare foodBest of luck to you! added: I wish the perch worked for me! Mine have a big cat tree in front of the living room windowThey love it, but they still want to look out all the other windows! In fact one cat has a routine in the evening.up on the table to look out that window, then up on the counter to look out that window, then up on the cat tree to look out that window.over and over againcrazy kitties! :)
