Question:

How can I help my carpet stop smelling?

I was gone for a few days and my cat knocked over a vase of flowers and the water soaked my carpet pretty goodIt was mostly dry by the time I came back, but it smells pretty badWhat can I do to make it sop smelling?

Answer:

If its wall to wall carpet then rent a rug doctor machine from the grocery or hardware storeIt will cost about $35 for a 24 hour rental and about $15 for the cleaning soapThere are video tutorials on you tube to show you how to do itI have no problem using the rug doctor machine and I am femaleYou can shift all the stuff to one side of the room, clean the carpet, let the carpet dry then shift the stuff to the other side and repeatPut aluminum foil under legs of chairs or beds with metal feet so it does not leave a rust stainIf its a room size rug then you can take it to the rug cleaner shop which is typically next to an oriental rug storeI don't think there is mildew under thereIf its a cheap area rug then go to the discount store or to Kohls and buy a new oneBest of luck
