I was thinking about buying used car batteries from the junk yard and connecting them with jumper cables then testing the connected batteries with a battery tester to see how many volts it has. I havent tried this yet so I dont know if it will work do you guys have any idea on how to make a generator so I wont have to pay for power
Homemade Electric Generator
Back to the idea of saving money, a gas powered generator is going to cost more than the utility power, a windmill made from scrap parts might a return on investment quicker than the 10 years solar cells might take. If you have different day and night energy rates, you could store cheap off hour power if your batteries to run things during expensive peak hours, though the electronics involved would take a significant time to pay off. Utilities have experimented with storing off hour energy in flywheels and compressed air underground tanks.
You could try to build a machine that uses the turning of something to power your house. The motion could either come from a bicycle that can be pedalled or a wind turbine. You would have to buy a large motor. Attach one end of the motor to a diode, and the other end to a battery, or your house. Attach the other end of the diode to the other terminal of the battery, or your house. Use either a fan blade or a bicycle to turn the pole in the motor. This will generate electricity. Assuming that you are a good cyclist, you could generate about 100w. An energy saving lightbulb is 11w so you would have to pedal hard to keep the house powered up. Buying old batteries probably costs more than the electricity from the mains. If you do buy solar panels and wind turbines, you can sell any excess energy back into the national grid, as well as powering your house.
You can re-design you house to run with 12 volts DC power: 1. Build a 12 volts battery bank,100000 AH or more.Connect 100 pieces of battery in parallel. Each battery requires a high current blocking diode at 100 amperes. 2.Change all the light bulbs into 12 volts. 3.You cannot use any electric appliances that run with 115 volts AC power. Like desktop computer, but you can replacing it with laptop computer that running on 12 volts DC. 4.Replace all appliances that able to run with 12 volts DC. They are existed in the market and they were designed for camping purpose. 5.Make a huge solar panel to recharge the battery bank. 6.You can feed the 12 volts home make power source to the AC panel to save some wiring.
