Question:

How can I mount Fiber Based Photo Paper to rusted steel?

I need advice from serious photographers only.I need to mount BW fiber based mural prints (40x60) onto sheets of cold pressed steel that have areas of rustI like the aesthetic of rust but am concerned about adhesion and archivalness of the printI was told to use Seal color mount mounting sheetsCan I use a hand iron? Do I need to find a business that has a large dry mount press? Is aluminum a better way to go? Any real help is appreciated.

Answer:

As long as you don't put it on your stomach your fineYou can put it on your back and legs and every where else thoI would also suggest not putting it on your sidesUpdatesorry I read your question wrong I thought it said heating padYou shouldn't use a heating blanket at all.
Well I know you dont want to heat yourself too muchUsually they say with a heating pad ten mins on ten mins offIf the heating blanket is anything like a heating pad I would stick to that, but if it not as hot as a heating pad it would probably be ok for a little bit, I wouldnt say all night though.
I checked with my Dron this just a few days agoI'm 14 weeks pregnant with a seriously painful sciatic nerve on my left sideShe told me heating with the heating pad for no more than 15 minutes at a time is fine, if your body hurts it's usually best to do heat in intervals pregnant or notIf it's something that's inflammed hot for 15 min and cold for 15 min will work wonders for you as wellI use the spa heating pads that have rice and aromatherapy in them, you can either microwave them for heat or freeze them for cold, that way the heat isn't consistently high and you don't end up with that red blotchy skin from the electric kind I also have really bad tension headaches and I do the same intervals on my neck and shouldersIf you wanna know a trick my massage therapist told me, get a couple of racquet balls and put them in a sock, lay on them on your bed (not on a hard surface) and you can do your own trigger points.I wish I knew this ages ago because it's really really amazingKeep in mind, any type of therapy whatsoever shouldn't be done until your first trimester is finished(Also, I'm a low risk pregnancy.if you are having any problems definatly just check with your dr!) Good Luck!
Iron and steel is without a doubt a means to an end in terms of archival photographic mediums, one only needs to consider the plethora of 100 year old plus ferrotypes(also refered to as tintypes) one can find perusing any antique storeIn terms of iron oxide i.e, rust, the Ph value is around 5-7, which as you know is ok because if that value were over 7 it would be too acidic and this would ruin your print over time as the acids leach into the paperAs far as adhesives, you might want to try PVA glue because it is ph neutral and wont destroy your printI would also suggest that you mount some kind of glass over the completed project because air can be the biggest contributors to an images archivalness(as well as stop the iron or steel from rusting further) which is why sensitive photos like the worlds first photo by Niepce is encapsulated in a frame of inert gases.
My doctor told me this about the heating blanketIt sucked because I loved my heating blanket.but I gave it upIt has to do with not raising your body temp.
