Me and my boyfriend have quite long hair. Mine to my waist, his almost halfway down his back. Very thick.The problem is we always destroy vacuum cleaners, from all the hairs we shed. Any ideas for special vacuum cleaners, tips, etc?

Most vac shops carry high quality powerfull dependable vacuums, all boxstore vacs now are cheap price cheap quality Chinese vacs
You need to buy a vacuum cleaner that can handle hair. Check with consumer reports. We have a Bissell and it works great on pet hair. Or get a shop vac. Or cut you hair short.
Get a good quality vacuum, use it often enough so it doesn't have to handle a lot of hair at one time, and clean hair away from the rotating brush and belt often. Every vacuum there is will have the same problem of long hair gumming up the belt but a good one will handle it somewhat better. And I mean one that costs more than $200. You get what you pay for.
