Encourage/enforce responsible deforesting practices. Limit development on hilly/mountainous terrain. Build artificial drainage on hilly/mountainous terrain. Basically the more trees and grass, etc. you have on a hillside, the less free dirt is available to start sliding because the roots have grabbed onto it.
can you prevent a tornado? No you cant prevent a natural disaster it wouldnt be a disaster, would it. However they could hire a ridiculous number of geologists to around and test everywhere (which is what i do) but then you would pay 1 million dollars in tax every year.
Ok what kind of landslides? Like landsides of houses built on the sides of hills? Not a whole lot, most of the houses built were built before suitable testing was done. Most new houses have extensive soil testing. Landslides in the government. Very simple, remove Bush from office.
The major cause of landslides is forest denudation. The loggers cut the trees from the forest for commercial purposes, leaving the mountains prone to landslides. The government has a major role to prevent landslides. It can ban logging, arrest those unscropolous loggers, do info campaign on the risk landslides as a consequence of forest denudation. Long term and sustainable solution to landslides is reforestation and immediate and temporary solution is to constract barrier to prevent landslides. The use of geotextile from coconut is also an effective control to landslide.
They could buy giant bulldozers, and level the entire country. This would also help create jobs for bulldozer operators, and related construction people. ================================
