Question:

How can you burn specific shapes into wood?

I want to burn a complex pattern into a round piece of wood (about 1quot; diameter), but I'm not sure how to create a templateI've tried cutting a hole in some aluminum, and then torching the wood through the shape I cutIt worked decently, but it's difficult to make precise cuts in the aluminum-especially with small shapesIs there a better material I could use as a template? If not, what should I use to make complex cuts in the aluminum?

Answer:

Wood is a hard, fibrous structural tissue found in the stems and roots of trees and other woody plantsIt has been used for thousands of years for both fuel and as a construction materialIt is an organic material, a natural composite of cellulose fibers (which are strong in tension) embedded in a matrix of lignin which resists compressionWood is sometimes defined as only the secondary xylem in the stems of trees,[1] or it is defined more broadly to include the same type of tissue elsewhere such as in tree roots or in other plants such as shrubs.[citation needed] In a living tree it performs a support function, enabling woody plants to grow large or to stand up by themselvesIt also mediates the transfer of water and nutrients to the leaves and other growing tissuesWood may also refer to other plant materials with comparable properties, and to material engineered from wood, or wood chips or fiber.
