I am putting my house on the market and the real estate agent needs to know if my house has copper or aluminum wiring.
Several good answers. The panel will be the best place to start. I will add one detail. There is a chance that you will find aluminum wire was used for the service entrance (the main wires from the power meter). Aluminum wire may have also been used for the range circuit and the furnace (if central, electric heating). These are not the kinds of aluminum wires that will present a problem when selling the home. The NM cables (known commonly as romex) are where you need to focus attention.

You look at the wires. If the conductor is grey or silver it is aluminum. Copper is the color of a penny. It's doubtful the house has Aluminum wire, most of those have burned by now and al has not been used for about 30 years by any reputable electrician. The best way to do this is to have an electrician inspect the electrical panel and service and the meter base. Get a written report and make any critical code changes or hazards found.
Another way to do it with out opening up all your wall plugs. Go down to your ele panel take out the 4 or 6 screws holding the cover on and look at the neutral bar or the breakers. You do not have o touch anything just look.
