Question:

How do I disengage the automatic door locks on my 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo?

When the vehicle reaches 15 mph, the doors automatically lock. I'd like to know how I can disengage this feature.

Answer:

If you have the overhead display it can be accessed through that. I don't know the exact procedure for the grand cherokee but I was able to get to mine in the Liberty. Just tinker around with the buttons while the key is on, in the driveway please not on the highway, and eventually you will find some options or a menu or something like it. If you have a manual, look up door locks or overhead display. that should get you there. Seems like I had to press two buttons at the same time. But I had the manual. If you don't have a manual and you can't figure it out try a library that has auto repair manuals and write down the procedure. Don't know why you would want to disable that safety feature. But once they lock you can unlock them manually and they should stay unlocked till the next time you start the engine and drive away. Good luck
This feature can be enabled and disabled using computer equipment at the dealer.
