My bathroom sink has a really, REALLY slow drain. Im not sure of what the parts are called so bare with me. I was able to take the bottom pipe, at that makes the u, at the bottom of the sink drain out and there was nothing there. I looked up, through the sink drain and that was clear. I then took a snake and put it into the wall and snaked the pipe as far as I could. I did get "gunk" and I thought that I cleared whatever was blocking the pipe creating the slow drain, but apparently I didnt. Right now Im just waiting for the sink to drain again to take that U off so I can snake the wall again. Thats all I can think of doing. Is there anything else for me to do, or is just keep snaking it my only option?
Not a plumber but I would try a longer snake or use compressed air with the pipes full of water.
I forgot to say. I tried using a sink plunger first. Obviously that didn't work, but it did bring black, smelly water into the sink. I plunged the heck out of it and that did nothing. I then took the U pipe out and snaked it. I was able to do it from the pipe that faces the ground and goes into the wall. I was able to get most of the snake all the way into the pipe. I did get some hair when I pulled the snake out of the pipe. I put the pipe back together, but still only get slow drain. I again took out the U pipe, and snaked it. Put it all together again and the same result. Slow drain. I have no improvement. Is it time to hire a pro or am I possible using the wrong kind of snake? I looked online and found a bunch, but does it really matter?
A slow sink drain is usually a hair block in the stopper arm but you are past that so the snake will work but I suspect an air lock or a full main drain line and that means either the main sewer line is blocked or the septic tank is full. If the snake does not solve the problem then you need a professional drain cleaning company.
