Question:

How do I get full value for silver I melt myself? Can I make it into a bar and sell it?

I know how to melt silver into ingots and they look shiny and amazing. I was wondering how to get full market value for them? Can I get them stamped or something? Do I need them stamped? Can I sell them to the US mint? I just want a fair return on this.

Answer:

The mint likely won't be interested. However selling them on eBay will probably bring more than the current spot price. I've done this myself with copper. You do need to guarantee purity. For that you need to get it tested.
If you know how to melt silver successfully into bars (not an easy feat to for the average Joe), why not become a refiner/mint yourself? Start buying scrap silver and refining it into your own bars. Get them tested/assayed and stamp them .999 Fine Silver and stamp your brand name/logo on them. Silver refineries right now are backed up to kingdom come with all the scrap silver flooding the market with the high silver prices. You should have no shortage of business if you truly know what you are doing.
