Question:

How do I get my cockatiel to use the water silo I got it?

I love the design because my bird has a tendency to poop in her water dish, so I have to change it several times during the day. But since I've gotten it, she hasn't used it. I have taken her other water dish out, hoping that she would check it out and discover there was water in it, but no deal. I have tried putting it right next to her food so she will see it, but no dice. I even took her out of the cage and took it out and showed her that water poured out of it, but anytime I would bring it near her she would fly away...I don't know if she is afraid of it or what, but I would really like to use it so her water would be more sanitary and fresh, but I don't know how. HELP PLEASE!!!

Answer:

Well yes honey ... your birdie is afraid of it. It is new and one freaky thing to your birdie right now. Let your bird get used to it on it's own. You bird will scope it out after awhile and figure out that it's not moving and a threat to it. Eventually your bird will go around it. Birdie will smell the water. No need in pushing it on to the bird ... cause it makes them that much more freakish about it you know. In the meantime ... you still need to keep that tray of fresh water in the cage until your see a change in your bird. Put some millet by it so the bird will be coaxed into getting close to it. Eventually birdie will see it will be okay. Hang it through the cage there.... know what I mean?
