I have been trying to get rid of a very large papyrus plant for about a weekIt is in thick soil and it's roots have wrapped themselves around some water piping for the sprinkler systemI have tried spraying it with killer and this thing is still growing it just will not dieWhat is the best way to make this job easierAlso it is weird because everything that I have seen about this plant says that it is aquatic yet the area around this plant is mostly dry but yet it is thrivingAny suggestions would be very much appreciated.
how about using gift-wrapping paper [the glittering poly-plastic kind] ? layer many sheets one above the other [ try to use different colors to get a beautiful rainbow effect]start cutting parallel lines through them but not all the wayleave the papers intact at the bottomnow you have multicolored strips that are joined at the bottomwrap this lower portion around 2 dowels, rolled covered magazine/newspaper, wooden stick, plastic rod, etc tie it up neatly or use a rubber bandyour pom-poms are ready to swing into action :-)) you can even make some accessories from these sheets - braided bracelets, belt, etcor tie a woolen-yarn or mini paper pom-pom around your wrist, as a brooch, etcto accessorisehope this helps all the very best enjoy :-))
I have used this technique on several tenacious plantsCut it back so several fresh cut stems are openTake some cotton batting or part of an old teeshirt and lay it in a big square of aluminum foil or several sheetsPour brush killer on the cotton full strength and cover the stems using the foil to hold the killer to the stemsIt will be sucked up and the plant will dieDon't use RoundupThat has to be put on something greenBrush killer is systemic and gets sucked upI have used this on small trees and shrubs after chopping the cut until it looks fuzzy like a brush for more surface area.
That sounds cuteFirst, you need handlesCut them out of cardboard or use a cut dowel or some such thingThen, cut 250 strips of crepe paper about 20 long and 1/4 to 1/3 wideTie them together in the middle, and secure them to a handleRepeat for the other pompon.
