How do I keep the lawn green when the dog pees on it? Are tne additives you put in thier food safe for them? ?

Answer:

Additives won't work, since the urea in the nitrogen comes from the digestion of protein in their food. No protein, no dog. Either make the dog pee somewhere else, or use the hose to soak the area right after the dog pees to dilute the urine so it won't burn the lawn.
I would say it should be okay, we usually put a towel under the set when placing on nice furniture. Keep an eye on it for a few days, especially after it is on for several hours. If it gets warm or too hot, you can put squares of felt under the feet of the TV. Even fleece could work for that, if the felt is not long enough.
I personally have never had to worry about dog urine causing a problem. I have three dogs(small, medium, and large) and they pee where ever they please and I have never had spots on my lawn. I have a Saint Augustine and Bermuda grass mixture. I have also seen a lot of other dog owners lawns without a problem. The bigest problems with lawn spotting occur in the summer as a result of fungus infections like Dollar Spot and these are often blamed on dogs. The only time you have a problem with dog urine is when a lot of dogs pee in exactly the same place repeatedly. Also make sure your sprinklers are covering your entire lawn. If you get sprinkler underlap you will have brown spots. These will show up fast in the summer.
Oh there's stuff on the market but really they don't work. Some people swear they do, but test after test prove otherwise. The nitrogen excreted from protein breakdown in the food is what is causing the spotting. It is a very concentrate fertilizermuch like if you tipped over a fertilizer bag. If you can catch the dog peeing and wet the spot withing 15 minutes, no spotting. Not practical. Some folks day sprinkling lime over the area will neutralizemaybe so but must be soon after application. Overall the best remedy is water. The urine is very water soluble and will wash out easily and the area reseeded. Dogs and lawn do not go together. I've had giant breed dogs for years so have learned what grass varieties withstand the onslaught (K-31.and old pasture grass is still the best, but ugly). I also know you cannot have dogs in a typical urban back yard and expect a nice lawn. One or the other.
You might want to look for something that has more of a non skid backing.like a rug or something so that it doesn't get bumped and slide off (I know it's heavy and unlikely, but still.)
