Question:

How do I remove stains from the metal surface of an electric iron?

I was ironing a synthetic cloth and I left the iron on the cloth for too long. The iron surface is now spoit with the burnt residue. Is there any way to remove the burning stains?

Answer:

Pour a small amount of salt into a saucer or container and dampen a cloth with water, dip the cloth into the salt and rub the metal surface of the iron. It should remove the residue.
Easy. Buy another iron -- on sale. If that is too expensive (it should not be) then --put the electric iron upside down --take a very sharp knife -- begin to slice and slide the dirty/sticky part. As soon as the great part of the dirt is gone-- brush it with a metal brusher soaked in hot water and soap. Then dry it all. All this while the electric iron IS NOT PLUGGED. I told you at the beginning it is easier to buy a new one. Your choice.
Well, if you've melted synthetic material to the iron.I've done this many times before w/ polyester, then you should turn your iron on full hot and when you smell the burn, scrape it on the side of your ironing bord (will ruin your ironing board in that spot). I guess you could scrape it w/ non coated metal kitchen spatula. But if it's rust and not material, with a COLD iron, NOT plugged in, use vinegar and cloth to remove rust or lime build-up.
