i have a ten gallon tank. what do i need to set up a tank? i want to get a clown fish like nemo

Answer:

Not true. You can have a nice mini-reef going on in a 10 gallon or even smaller aquarium. This is called a nano reef, and clownfish CAN be kept in a 10 gallon tank. BUT, you NEED to know what you're doing before you start such a small tank. i.e., read about EVERYTHING before you do it, and you have to be seriously careful and diligent. The reason why everyone advises starting with a large aquarium such as 55 gallons is because there's more room for error, and if you screw up you have much less of a chance of wrecking your aquarium. I have a 29 gallon reef aquarium with a clownfish, royal gramma, and various corals and invertebrates. They're all happy and it's been up and running for 3 years now. I've also had numerous smaller aquariums going, some as small as 3 gallons. So it can be done, that is IF you know what you're doing.
Tank, filter heater, gravel syphone, hydrometer, thermometer, salt dolomite/crused coral or sand and a good dechlor/water conditioner for salt water, a clean bucket used only for your tank, salt water test kit. This is what you will need to start is to mix the water. Your hydrometer is used to test the salinity in the water you are adding to the tank. Wash the base (unless you are using live sand) add it to the tank, mix your salt water and add it to the tank. Turn on the filter and heater and let it start to cycle. your tank will take roughly 4-6 weeks to cycle. When your water test come back with 0 ammonia and 0 nitrites you will be able to add your fish.
I'd imagine you'd need a bigger tank than 10 gallons. Maybe like 100 gallons? If you want something exotic looking for a ten gallon I'd get a betta. Start of small and work your way up, Salt water tanks are more work and clown fish aren't your typical pet.
