How do I straighten (make good gradual curvatures) in 1/8 inch diameter copper tubing. I need to be able to control the copper tubing‘s curvature also.PS: I am using copper tubing as the spine and rails of the model roller coaster I am going to build. :DThanks,Taylor
I have seen installers of instrument air systems that use copper tubing straighten the tubing by anchoring one end in a vise and then attaching the other end of the tubing to a metal bar. They then stretch the tubing by pulling on it. This makes the tubing perfectly straight and is not sufficient stretching to damage the tubing. This technique also works on wire that comes in a coil.
NEVER ever use a compression fitting or solder a gas line. The only thing that is legal and safe for copper is a flare fitting.Twisted copper is extremely difficult or impossible to untwist and if you do get it to untwist it may be very weak at that point. This could be dangerous on an RV.I would recommend cutting it and replacing a small section or to the next closest fitting.Flaring copper tubing isn't that difficult but requires a flaring tool and tubing cutters to do this. Both of these tools can be purchased at any hardware store.Practice a couple of flares til you get a flare that covers the end of the flare fitting and will allow the nut to go over it.Do not over tighten and check with a soapy solution when done.
