Question:

How do I unclog my bathroom sink?

I think it's from someone shaving in there. I don't know but it takes like 15 minutes for the thing to drain. It's driving me insane. I tried to unclog it with a butter knife but that didn't work It just made it worse.

Answer:

It's most likely hair buildup that causes most of these clogs. The fix is easy, if you know what you are doing and have the tools, to remove the U-tube trap and clean it out. You can use Drano, or some other chemical product to do the job, and they often work well. If you have any TSP Cleaning powder, use that and a few pots or kettles of boiling water, that often does the trick. If you have a wire coat hanger, you can cut that, make a small hook, and try to remove the hair ball. Or go under the sink, and if you have a pop up sink unit, take it out, and pull up the pop up plug, as they tend to collect all that hair. Clean it, and put in back in place.
A plunger should work just fine (I unclogged our bathroom sink just yesterday). Put a wet rag over the overflow hole in the edge of the sink and plunge the drain. Even a toilet plunger works ok at this. Make sure there is water in the sink and go for it. If you already have a plunger this is completely free and will work most of the time. If you still can't get it, disassemble the P-trap under the sink and clean it out.
You should try Draino. For hair clogs, Draino Max Gel Clog Remover works best, but any Draino will do! Good luck!
there is a tool called a ZIP IT it is a thin flexable tool that you slide down the drain and the spikes on the sides catch the hair [human or animal] and you pull it right out .can get at walmart , ace hardware cost 3.00 works great and you don't have to take the stopper out of the sink to use it.
