If people want to mine things, such as iron ore, copper ore, diamonds, gold, and other things, how do they go about doing that? Are there certain geological features where there is a higher chance of finding ore, or whatever is to be mined? After that, what do people do? Do they just dig randomly?
The searching and finding minerals and various metals has been going on for millenia. Much of the hunt has been hit or miss. Example: people noticed that iron comes from this certain reddish stratus rock. So the next groups of people look for just that. I firmly believe that Cyprus what so powerful because copper was so abundant there. Jumping to the past 100yrs, mining for uranium is really a snap because of geiger counters, etal., are used. Diamonds are known to be found around volcanic areas. Then there are those lucky strikes (remember how Jed Clampett found oil). I could go on, but I think you get the picture.
Thank the geologists, more specifically mineralogists.
