Oh well I hope the stone surface is somewhat evenbut you can use a liquid nails or even a silcone adhesive, both of which somes in tubes for a caulk gunyou can apply it quite a heavy zig zag bead on the back of the plate but dont get any closer than 1 to any edgethat way it will not squeeze out when you push it against the stoneyou can keep it in place with a duct tape until it sets.
