Question:

How do you disable a aftermarket car alarm?

The alarm in my 97 Jeep Grand Cherokee goes off when I unlock the drivers side door and open it. I haven‘t even owned the Jeep more then a year so I don‘t know everything about the alarm. It usually just shuts off when you unlock the door. I tried turning the car on but it shuts off right away and I couldn‘t find a switch under the dash. I really don‘t want the alarm anymore, I just wanna be able to get into my car with no problem.

Answer:

Well you can unplug the unit UNLESS there's a starter kill built in, if that's the case you would have to reconnect the starter wire as well. Most alarms have a valet mode built into them though. Valet mode disables the alarm functions without disabling the keyless entry. If you have a manual for it, look for that, if not I could look it up for you if I knew what brand and model alarm it was, or if you find out, just Google that model and valet mode for it. The brand name is usually on the remote, if its not, you have to look up under the dash for the brain to it, should be printed on there, bring a flashlight, if it was installed right, its gonna be tucked up in there.
does it have an immobiliser built in ?
