You can buy 'night pads', they are designed for sleeping so they are much longer and thicker. And if they still don't stop the leaking put a towel under you to protect the bed.

Not at all. Here is why: metal doesn't attract the lightning. That is an urban legend. A lightning rod leads faster the lightning and, therefore, avoid damages caused by burning, that's all. I once read in the British yachting magazine Practical Boat Owner that if the lightning is to strike within a radius roughly equal to the height of the mast, it will strike it, else it will fall in the sea. The point was; it didn't matter of the mast was wood or aluminum. Likewise, the tires of a car doesn't protect you from the lightning as an isolator. What makes it safer to be in a car is the metal body that works as a Faraday cage around you. Electricity will travel around it, not inside. The same is actually valid for aluminum airplanes and this is why modern airplanes, build with carbon fiber, have thin aluminum sheets to protect the inside.
