Question:

how do you find out what kind of car alarm is on a 98 sebring lxi? and where is the alarm located. The reason?

I ask is that I lost the fob for it. Thank you for your help.

Answer:

Look under the dash on the drivers side that's usually where they ut them.
P0442 is a small evap system leak if its not the gas cap it could be hard to find
YOU WILLHAVE TO CHECK THE SMALL LINES FROM TANK TO MOTOR. THEY WILL BE ALONG SIDE FUEL LINES. AT TANK,CANISTER,AND MOTOR THERE WILL BE RUBBER LINES. CHECK THESE.
You can order a new fob for about $10 to $15 . It is easy to program the fob to your car and can be done at home, without any tools.
genereally if it honks the horn you have a factory alarm and should seek service at a dealer. if you have an alarm that sounds like a fire truck or ambulance its aftermarket and can be done yourself or by a stereo shop. Yes, usually on the drivers side dash. it may be inside behind the cluster or under the carpet or side panel. look for wires that have black electrical tape, shiny gray split loom convoluted tubing or zip ties. any wires that show these signs should lead you to the location. factory wiring ususally uses a duller black tubing and diferent taping, it should be pretty obvious which wires go to the alarm. most alarms can basically just be ripped out but if it has been wired to the starter and stops the car from starting when the alarm is trigged you may need to look up how to reconnect the starter or seek help to properly reconnect the wires after the alarm is removed
