Question:

How do you fix a rust-hole in a car?

I have a large hole from rust above the right rear wheel well of my honda accordI would like to fix this by patchingWhat is the best way? Should I take it to a body shop or use bondo? The hole is irregular shaped and is about 6quot;x3quot;.

Answer:

I would stick with what you are doingI've tried doing it on a cookie sheet and on a metal pan with cooking spray but was not very successful.
Use as much cinnamon as you would pumpkin
A body shop would do it in less time and would use the right materialsLabor is costlyIf it is a flat area I would cut out the rusty metal, wire brush the area around the cutout with a electric drill wire brush attachmentPlace a patch (sheet metal) over the holeUse a drill and pop rivets to secure the patch and cover the repaired area with spray-on undercoat from your parts store to seal against moistureThe sheet metal patch can be cut from scrap such as the metal jacket of a discarded home hot water heaterA piece of aluminum can be shaped if the surface is not completely flatAluminum cannot be welded to existing body steelThe repaired area can be spray can painted when completed and cleaned.
