Question:

How do you fix an automatic garage door?

A few of my younger relatives was playing with the emergency rope that comes with the garage door and now the button that we usually use to open and close the said door from inside the garage door doesn't work, does anyone know how to fix this?

Answer:

it needs resetting or is stuck but unless you kno how to do this, we cant help you
Have you tried jiggeling the emergency rope a little bit? On mine, there is a little catch that needs to be reset and sometimes jiggleing the rope does the trick. It could be that the reset catch-thing needs a little lubrication for it to do the reset.
Raise the door manually. If it will not raise, pull the cord again to make sure the opener is disengaged from the door and try again. These things tend to get a bit sticky when not used, so you may need to get on a ladder and look at the latch and apply a bit of help to get it unlocked. Once the door is down, activate the opener. You may have to do this a couple of times until the operator moves to the proper position and engages the door. If that does not work, you will need to provide additional details -- is the door up or down, does the operator move when you push the button, any noise from it, does the light on the opener come on, etc.
HERE'S THE ANSWER: Once the emergency disengage has been, well, disengaged... you need to get the thing re-engaged. The easiest way is to shut the door by hand and then press the button to close the door. The automatic closer will run the actuator head up the trolley track and you will see it snap into place. After that all will be normal. If you have no power to the thing... meaning you press the button and it does nothing or only flashes the lights, you may have a problem with the electric eye sensor as well. If the kids bumped either the sender unit or the reflector and they are out of line, the door will not respond to the controls. To check, look at the electric eye head. it will have a red and a green lamp. If the green is not lit it means the reflector is not reflecting the beam back. Adjust one side or the other until you get a green light. After that the power head should respond to the control.
