My first thought when I read your question was paper macheIf you made a pinata type ball, it would be light, and you could cover it with foil, or spraypaint it For paper mache, make a flour and water mixture that is the consistency of a pretty thick pasteTear newspaper into strips, dip it into the paste, run the paper through two fingers to get rid of the excess paste, and plaster it onto a balloon or a ball if you want a perfect circleLet the first layer dry, and add a second layer, and maybe a third, depending how sturdy you want itThen cover it with foil or spraypaint it or whatever you want.
