I'm trying to tighten the electrical wires on my car.Do I just use pliers and twist them tighter? Can I use my hands?-tightening the wires on my ignition switch and starterNeed to know asapNo B.S. just need to know how
Twisting wire is about the poorest electrical connection Next is wire nuts like houses use next is butt connectors where crimping the connector is used. The only real way to connect one wire to another is slide heat shrink tubing over one wire twist the two wires and apply melted 60/40% solder to make a shiny connection slide the heat shrink over the solder joint and heat it to shrink the insulating heat shrink then use electrical tape over that.
I think that twisting with a pair of pliers is best, less chance of getting a nasty metal splinter in your skin.
Why you want to tighten the wires? If you meant position it, I would use zip ties, pull the electrical wire tight is not a good idea.
Soldering them is the only real way to make sure the connection is good. If you twist them too much, they will break inside the coating and give you a bad connection. Why are you needing to tighten them?
Nuts hold wire eyelets on threaded stud shafts and you tighten the nut (not too tight). Plastic connectors with metal contact pins just need to be removed and reconnected to make a better connection. House wiring uses wire nuts that screw on to the twisted ends of the wires to be joined. Some eyelet terminals are held by a screw you tighten. Sometimes you can permanently connect a twisted and soldered wire jumper to make sure two wires are connected together.
