i just open the battery pack.but someone told me thats not the only way
There are three ways 1. Hold down the Xbox LIVE button (Silver, circle button in between the 'back' and 'start' button) until a window comes up. You can choose either Turn off controller or to Turn off console, so just choose to turn off the controller. 2. Open the battery pack, like you said. 3. Turn off the Xbox console and it automatically turns off. You can also turn on the console by holding the Xbox Live button.

You can press the silver, spherical button with the Xbox logo in the center of the controller and select the option on-screen to turn off the controller.
Just press the Xbox button on the controller for a couple of seconds. An on screen menu would pop up asking to turn off the controller, the console or cancel (neither). Press the obvious option.
It turns off when you shut down the xbox.
