how does a hydrogen fuel cell work?
I've been researching this lately. You can find a lot of info on YouTube. Just type in HHO Generator. That's what people are building in order to improve their gas milage dramatically.
HHO generation has nothing to do with the fuel cell, however. Hydrogen gas will supply an electron to a plate, while oxygen on another plate accepts that electron. That process creates a voltage between the hydrogen plate and the oxygen (or air) plate. Do a look up for the Ballard fuel cell.
Well it's caused by a exothermic reaction between Hydrogen and oxygen of course. So when them come together they produce an electric charge and the wires in the fuel cell take the energy to use what ever it leads to. So concept is really simple although to break the bonds if you wish to store fuel for a hydrogen fuel cell you have to add energy to get it so it's a net gain of 0 energy by just having it be readjusted a bit somewhere else.
