I want to lay tile in my living room and I am on a fixed income. I have never done anything like this and so I do not know how hard it will be for me to do.
We've done a lot of tile work and have learned a lot. Most books and websites have all the inof you need to know. If it's your 1st job, don't get too crazy w/the design, which can require more cutting. BUT, we have learned that the REAL CHEAP (like under .99/sq. ft.) tile from the superstores is hard to work w/since each tile it NOT the same size. This makes it hard to get straight grout lines. The tile we have bought from the tile stores have been better quality and youn can still find nice stuff in the .99 - $1.50 sq. ft. range. They are also a wealth of information! Good luck.
as long as its a flat surface and not a lot of cuts it ok but if its uneven and there is many cuts it will do your nuts in
Not too, if you have a healthy back, young knees, and patience. Get a couple of books from teh library and READ them thoroughly. Make sure you spend more time preparing than anything else and purchase quality products. Have plenty of ibuprofen on hand. Good luck
as far as DIY its a great first time in MHO .First get a book on tile laying from Lws or HD its an easy project and more forgiving then most but prep is very important .A great DIY and goes quickly with those big tiles.Good Luck
Are you laying ceramic tile or vinyl or laminate? Ceramic tile can be a do it yourself job, but it's hard and you need a wet saw and cement backer board to make sure it will lay right and that you can cut the tiles. Laminate flooring is much easier to install, but you still have to measure and prepare the surface so it's flat and so that the tiles won't shift. Sheet laminate can be easier overall, but all flooring requires a lot of prep work, and it's always more expensive than you think it will be. With that said, it can also change the entire look of a room which is good! GOOD LUCK!!!!
