Question:

How long does trout stay edible if it was in the freezer?

Our fridge/freezer broke yesterdayThe freezer was still working at the time but everything had to be taken outWe found 2 pieces of butterflied trout in the freezerThey were tightly wrapped in aluminum foil and tight plastic inside a plastic bagThey have very little (almost no) ice on themBUT they're dated early 2012.They don't smell bad, but could we get sick from them, or just might they taste blah? Thanks for your answers.

Answer:

If they thawed out completely, you'll have to eat them NOW-or not bother-they won't re-freeze and you can't keep them more than one or two days after thawingIf they are thoroughly cooked, they will be okay-as long as they were thawed out and eaten in the same 1 or 2 day period.
