I have two upright Vacuum Cleaners, a 1997 Hoover Turbopower 2, and a 1979 Electrolux 502S, and was wondering how long the drive belts usually last ? On the Turbopower, I had to change the original belt about 3 months ago, as it was starting to slip, which means its belt lasted about 14 years. Is that normal ? Or was it incredibly lucky to last so long ?As for the Electrolux, it obviously doesn't have the original belt, and since I only got it 2 days ago, and didn't ask the previous owner when she last changed it, I have no idea how old it is, only that it still works fine.
it would depend on the quality of the belt and the usage and the humidity .. most usually last for two or three years == as they are considered an expendable item
At least 6 months to a year.
If you had an Orek I'd say about 3 months. Any pressure on the belt from dog hair on the brush bar would rip the belt. If you don't have long haired dogs or carpets/rugs that have loose threads that can wrap around the beater bar, straining it's movement and thus the belt, you could easily get several years out of a belt. Fortunately more are inexpensive and once you learn the trip on how to replace it, easily done.....especially the Orek...I had plenty of practice.
In an air conditioned house where you vacuum once a week a belt will last about 4 years. In a really hot and dry place like Phoenix it drops down to around 3 years, especially if you store your vacuum in the garage where it's easily 110 degrees with 9% humidity. I learned the hard way and now store my vacuum in the hall closet inside the house where it is 75 degrees and 27% humidity. It should last longer. Vacuums that were built 14 years ago used better components and the units lasted longer. The more modern ones are cheaper, designed to wear out faster and use thinner or less reliable components. The manufacturers want them to breakdown so you buy another new one or at least have to buy another, belt, filter, canister etc.
