How many missile silos did the US have in the Cold War and now and where were they located?

Answer:

Not too long ago, I saw a map on the internet that showed the locations of a great many of them. You should be able to find it if you do some searching. Of course, I is not likely to show any currently active defense systems. Why do you think Google Earth has blanked out areas and areas in very low resolution?
North Dakota Missile Silos
The Atlas and Titan I missiles were decommissioned by 1965. There were 54 Titan II missiles in service from 1963 until they were decommissioned in 1986. 1,000 Minuteman missile silos were built from 1961 to 1967. There were 1,000 active Minuteman missiles at 6 locations from 1967 to 1986. F. E. Warren AFB, Wyoming(200) Malmstrom AFB, Montana(200) Minot AFB, North Dakota(150) Grand Forks AFB, North Dakota(150) Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota(150) Whiteman AFB, Missouri(150) From 1986 to 1988 50 Minuteman missiles at F. E. Warren AFB were replaced with 50 Peacekeeper missiles. In 1992 450 Minuteman missiles were decommissioned. From 2002 to 2005 50 Peacekeeper and 50 Minuteman missiles were decommissioned. So we now have 450 Minuteman missiles at 3 locations. F. E. Warren AFB, Wyoming(150) Malmstrom AFB, Montana(150) Minot AFB, North Dakota(150)
239, and they're in the same place they were before!
