Question:

how many of you have heard of a toilet bowl cleaner the works bomb?

i've seen the videos on youtube and i know it has to do with oxidation but i want to know morehow does the cleaner and aluminum foil combine with such an explosive forcei know as with most bombs the reason it explodes is because of the overpressurasation of the containeri may have misspelled that but could someone enlighten me a bit more?

Answer:

well you guys can play bball outside, go on the internet and play games there or ask if you can go out somewhere like watch movies and stuff
Well, it's a build up of hydrogen gas (H2) that will eventually make it explode as represented by the equation below: 2 Al + 6 HCl → 3 H2 + 2 AlCl3 If the aluminum foil isn't pure, which it really isn't, it's combined with oxygen from the air to make aluminum oxide (Al2O3)Again, the reaction shown below: Al2O3 + 6 HCl → 3 H2O + 2 AlCl3 Because the reaction is exothermic (gives off heat), it will turn the water into water vapor and will eventually expand the bottle and make it explodeAlong with the water vapor, there will be some hydrogen gas as once the hydrochloric acid (HCl) reacts with the top layer of aluminum oxide, it will react with just aluminum.
