In short Their parents. That is what is wrong with the kids today. That and the government creating more and more ways to help parents not be parents. Organizations that spout how wrong it is to discipline your children in any way other than giving them a stern look and putting them in a chair. Unfortunately, it is my generation that are the parents of today and all I see are a bunch of lazy and angry parents. But Looking at statistics, I think the teen crime rate has gone down over the past 20 years.
Just as all and any generation we all want to raise our kids different than the way we were raised. I am a mother of a six yr old and catch myself giving him choices I never had at his age. Ex: Do u want green beans or brocili? Who's parents asked what we wanted to eat? Hell growin up I ate what was for dinner or went hungry! Another example would be we ask our kids to do things such as Will u pick ur toys up? Not my moma and daddy They told us. I have asked myself the same question and the only answer I have is the system of goverment laws and of course us always wanting more and better for our children. And yes I agree with the others that the media does play a role in it too. But only we can change it, how is the question that wonders in my mind.
I'm 20 but i would like to answer if you dont mind. It irritates me that a lot of parents today let their children run over top of them. I mean, I stiil don't curse in front of my parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles etc. I think the big thing that affected the youth today is social services. They say it's abuse for parents to spank their children so people are afraid to spank them out of fear their children may get taken away. I was spanked as a child and I turned out fine. (unless you consider the fact that i'm not married with 2 children) But, I'm with their father and we're getting married next yearI was legally an adult when I had both. I honestly don't want my children near most of these kids when they get older. My favorite thing to do when I was younger was taking night walks. My friends an I would get together at 9 on the weekends and walk around town. We eventually went to our male friend's house and took a night swim. I was also allowed to have friends that were boys stay over cause thats all we werefriends. I would sleep in my bedroom and they would sleep in my bro's room. My parents never thought about twice about that. I doubt that my kids would be allowed to have a boy stay over when they're teens. I'd be too worried about the way people are so casual with sex. I had sex the first time when I was 17 and I am still with that man. I wish the world would go back to the way it was when I was younger. I liked not having ot worry about getting shot in school and had no worries about being molested by a teacher

I think they are spoiled for the most part. When I was a kid we weren't allowed to speak until spoken to, interrupt someone when they were talking, eat in Grandma's livingroom, do anything inside if the weather wasn't below 20 degrees, sleep in, backtalk, etc. Now it seems like every kid I know can do all of those things and get away with it! Maybe parents now a'days are more lax in raising their kids because they don't have the time to raise them who knows but the world is suffering because of it! When I was a kid we used to love to float the canal on old tractor tire tubes.. I'm not positive but I think that now it's illegal to even be in the canals! How sad!
