Question:

How much is old copper plumbing worth?

I am having my bathroom redone and my plumber has removed some copper pipes (which are about 40 years old and have some green spots on them) and replaced them with all plastic. What I am wondering is about how much would a piece be worth, one that he took out was about 5 feet long and about 3 inches in diameter. I know new copper is very expensive but what about old copper???

Answer:

1 copper you will get the most- that has no solder on it. But that old drain line probably has some solder on it, so it will go for whatever #2 copper is going for. The price has gone down recently.
Its worth whatever the going price of copper is..
It sounds like he removed 3in waste water piping. Copper is worth what the price per pound is right now in your area. I think it is under a dollar per pound right now. But still that 3in pipe is nice scrap. It adds up quick. Unfortunately for you that pipe belongs to the plumber who is taking it out unless specified before the work began.
copper is a higher valued scrap metal.. Last time i sold some, it was around $2.80 a pound for Copper #2. If you sell to them Copper#1 it's worth more.. That copper is the clean copper that has no sauder or brass on it.. I thik copper has went down right now, but it fluctuates, because I have sold it for almost $3.70 a pound before.
