Question:

How to bend aluminium bracelet blanks without a bracelet bender?

I make aluminium bracelets (not professionally) and recently my bracelet bending pliers brokeI'm waiting for a new pair but it's going to take a long time to ship here, and I have quite a few orders in right now, so I was wondering if there's a way to bend them into an acceptable shape without a bracelet bender?

Answer:

I like the Jagwire Ripcord myself.it comes in a nice blackish/charcoalish/clearish color where you can see the braiding underneathIt also comes in several other colors (dark silver, light silver, titanium, gold, brown, pink, orange)Most of the pics on the internet don't really show how nice they lookThey make another cable that is super-durable and great for mechanical, but I can't remember what Jagwire calls it.Giant sells the same thing under their label in a dark grey colorGood stuff The Nokon aluminum cables are pretty flashy but super-expensiveNot something I'd put on my bikes, but they look cool on the bikes I've seen it installed on.
Use a leather hammer and a piece of pipe or dowel smaller than the finished size you wantThe dowel will be round, not oval, but you can compensate by using two sizes of dowel, one for the ends (smaller) and a larger size for the body of the braceletHammer away, starting with bending the ends to the right curve over the smaller dowel, then hammer the rest of the metal strip over the larger dowel.
