I can see the cracks in the basin of the birdbath and when I fill the bath, there is a slow leak which drains the birdbath in about 1/2 hour. Is there some non-toxic way to fix the cracks?
They sell concrete patch in a tube. Any lumber or hardware store. Both kinds of tubes. The squeeze type and the kind you put in a caulking gun. Follow directions of course. Then just make sure it good and cured, then rinse it before use. As far as toxicity, you'll be ok. Besides, most small birds that would use your birdbath only lives a few years regardless.
Use an aquarium safe silicon caulk. Most pet stores carry it as well as most large home improvement stores. It will say on the tube that it is safe for aquariums.
Empty it out and let it dry for a few days since it is cement. You can go to the store and get some ready creat and mix it up and smooth it over the areas that are cracked to repair it. So that it will seal off the area. Or you can try this. Empty it and let it dry get some aquarium cement and put it on the cracks to fill them up. It is non toxic since it's used in fish tanks all the time. I really think the ready creat cement is a better idea since it is cement after all.
