we have a project and we have to make a can crusher using simple machines such as levers, wheel and axle etc... does anyone know something simple oour group can do that doesn't cost a lot?? Homework !!!

Hi, you could make this out of some descent wood but metal is better. A 6 square metal plate 0.125 thick, lying flat . Weld a 12 long piece of 1 angle iron that has had a .25 hole drilled at one end, to the centre of one of the sides of the plate so it sticks up vertical. Drill a hole in the end of an 18 piece of 1X.25 strip and another 3 in from that hole. Drill a.25 hole in then end of a piece of similar strip 4 long. Weld a 2 dia disc to the other end. Bolt the end or the 18 strip to the top of the angle, then bolt the 4 log strip in the second hole and let it dangle. Both fittings should be able to move freely. Lift the end of the 18 bar up, place a can under the disc and push down to crush. If you want to weld a ring on the bottom plate to fit the can in so that it does not slip you can do.
