I'm moving cross country and have a very limited decorating budget. I wanted to buy an Ikea sofa but I know how uncomfortable they are. I have an idea to create a sectional sofa/daybed by using two twin bed sets minus the frames and placing them in an L-shape with lots of pillows on top. I have my eye on two Wolf Slumber Express mattresses from Walmart that reviewers say are extremely firm. I'm thinking of just placing two twin mattresses on top of each other, thereby getting some sinking action like on a real sofa instead of putting them on a wooden foundation by themselves. Does anyone have any idea what happens when you put two mattresses on top of each other - do they slip off of each other or do they pretty much stay in position?
Your better off using the foundation underneath, which is specifically designed to supply the mattress with support. Keep in mind that mattresses and sofa's are designed for their intended purpose, so substituting one for the other isn't likely to be effective long-term. Mattresses are designed to absorb the weight of the individual spread over the entire surface area of the mattress, placing your entire weight on a few springs will result in them breaking down quickly. Using a second mattress will only expedite the wear and tear even more.
