don't do it all alltrust me, if you want a sticky mess i the morning when you take a shower then go aheadit is horrible for your hair and it is very hard to keep inif you are really determined to not use dye that is good for you, go for food coloring insteadthat way at least you wont make more of a mess than you have to.:) (ps: kool ade does not work)!
No other option but painting, but you can coat it or wrap it in aluminium foils!
