Question:

How to make an aluminum foil boat?

For my physics class, I have to make an aluminum foil boatI have a 15cmx15cm piece of aluminum foil and that's itNo tape or glueIt has to float and hold at least 80 penniesThe most I've gotten is 35 (I believe)I've tried a few different waysHere are some:Flat sheet with edges folded up to keep pennies in and water out(This is where I got the most)Sheet folded into quarters to make a smaller square, sides folded up (this is where I got the least)Flat sheet on water (this is where i got the second least)

Answer:

15 cm is just a bit over 5 sq before you start foldingNot very big at allSo I thought trick question and began thinking outside the box as it wereMy first attempt was rough, held 30 and leakedBut I think I may be on the right trackTry a cylindrical shape, something along the lines of a tube of toothpasteLay 5 (or more?) penny's on edge and set them in the bottomStack more on top of those and see it that worksMy thought is the weight of 80 penny's exceeds the displacement you can get from such a small pieceSo are you sure about the 15 cm? I have no doubt it can be done with 150 cmOr even 75 cm Please come back and tell us what the final solution is!
