Question:

how to make room cooler without using A/C?

i live in a 2 BR apartment that is east facingin the morning, the sun comes in and heats up the apartment extremely fastwe HAVE central AC and it works fine, but it costs too much to runI live in San Diego where it is hot pretty much every day, and rarely do we get a break from thattoday its going to reach 80F, which means it will be about 85F in my apartmentHow to I make it cooler in at least my bedroom? I have a window fan running all night, and all morning, but the blinds I use are not very effective (they are the kind of blinds that are plastic slits that slide horizontally)I was thinking of using aluminum foil and trying to block out all of the heat and lightWill that work if i only use it in my bedroom? What are some other tipsand please dont make stupid suggestions like quot;buy some more fansquot;, and p.s., I already know about the bowl of ice in front of a fan trickthe reason i dont use that is bc i dont have any icethank you! :)

Answer:

Knitting With 2 Strands
There isn't much you can do with an apartment as everything is more or less temporary But you can get blackout curtains that act as good insulation and reflective curtains San Diego has low humidity so an evaporative cooler is an option Whatever that so called green designer is spouting is nonsense, aluminum foil does not absorb heat, it reflects heat, mylar space blankets exist because they reflect 97% of the radiant heat, radiant insulation in attics are reflective aluminum foil that reflect radiant heat, and dark colors absorb heat not reflect heat.
I am a knitter and I can answer this question. To knit with 2 strands of yarn that means literally.take 2 balls of yarn of if you have enough roll 2 balls from one ball and then take one strand from each ball and knit (or pearl) each stitch together as tho it were one stitch
If the pattern says to use 2 strands, you do just that: carry two strands of yarn together and knit them as oneSome knitters wind balls of double yarn and then knit, while others leave the yarn in the balls or skeins and knit together from thoseTake care while knitting to knit both strands consistently! Good luckElaine J.
I don't knit, I crochet, but from the looks of the slippers, and based on the instructions, I would definitely say that it means to use 2 strands of yarn through the whole projectIt will make them thicker and strongerHave fun!!
