how to remove an angle valve from a wall pipe?

we are trying to replace the angle valve going to our toilet from a wall pipe. trying to unscrew it doesn‘t help, it doesn‘t become loose. we just keep turning and nothing is happening. are we doing something wrong? how do you completely remove it?
