Question:
How to restore old rusty cast iron skillets?
When I moved into the house I currently live in the landlord left a set of cast iron skillets and said we could have themThe only problem is that they have rust on them and it looks pretty bad and like it has been there for a while. Is there a way to get the rust off and it still be usable for cooking? I was thinking of an SOS pad or sand paper but am not sure if it will ruin the pan.I have never had a cast iron skillet before so how do I season it or prepare it to be used after getting the rust off?
Answer:
First of all why are you bringing African-Americans up so much in your question? Asians face more racism than blacks? You got to be kidding meCome on Asians are considered the model minority by societyIf a Chinese man and a black man applied for the same job I guarantee you that the Chinese man would get the job first despite the fact that the black man may have more experience or educationDon't believe me? Just ask aroundGo to some of these businesses and you will see it first handWho gets pulled over the most by police in this country? My point exactlyI don't mean to sound rash but this is indeed reality that I am sharing on hereAs far as to why Chinese or Asians as a whole experience racism is because they are a minority like other minority groups and there is only one group that has the power and influenceMaybe not as much in times past but the influence is still lingeringEDIT: You sound really stupid saying we sound out our frustrationsYou are an immigrant to this country right? A willing participantMe on the other hand and the generations before me are not and no I am not going back to Africa because I don't have any family tiesThey were destroyed hundreds of years ago through slaveryTry being at the bottom of barrel socially and you will see why I said what I didWork hard you say? lolBlacks do tooYou probably experience racism from blacks because you probably acted like you was superiorYou do know ideals do have the tendency to transcend to a person's disposition right? Quit feeding into the bull of the media about blacks!! Get your head out of the clouds and join the partyIf it isn't white it's not rightYou have to be smart enough to know that.
I personally am a Chinese but I don t live in ChinaMost people don t really like chinese people because they can get quite annoying especially when they can t speak English very well or when the light goes green and they are still waiting, I am not trying to offend anyone because than I would be offending myself but my parents always said most people don t like us is because some people from our culture just do really stupid things that just piss people offI can understand where they are coming even we when we see a chinese driver and does something stupid we get annoyed.
It is not racismI lived in China for a long time as a non chinese, non white person of colorThe Chinese would always ask why Americans are racist to them, it would drive me nutsBecause I never saw it happenThe problem is Chinese people tend to worship whites, fear blacks and remain neutral with Latin people, whereas other minorities don't suffer as a whole from this sort of inferiority complexIn China I suffered from much racism (not so much discrimination, but definitely blatant racism), because I was completely differentThat is when I had realized the problem Chinese people have as a whole is they hate their own appearance, and anyone not whiteMany Chinese throw themselves to white people rather than being proud of being culturally rich and they get their feelings hurt, well crushed, and call it racismIf black people are treating you bad in your area, moveIts not racism, its your neighborhoodFind some self-confidence.

You can use sandpaper to get the loose rust offYou can then coat the pan in Naval Jelly (purchase at auto parts store)It is a strong acid (wear gloves) that eats away the rustThen clean it with soap and hot waterOnce you get it clean, you need to season itDo some searching online for seasoning techniquesOnce you have it seasoned, don't clean it with waterJust pour a little oil in the pan and some kosher saltRub this around with a wadded up paper towel to clean the panAfter you get it clean, remove the oil/salt and wipe it downYou can also use a wadded up ball of aluminum foil (without salt and oil)Cleaning like this will help you maintain your seasoningMake sure you never cook anything acidic like tomato sauce in the panIt will eat the finish right off.
