If you don't have a small vegetable steamer, then you can crumple some aluminum foil and put it in the bottom of a saucepan with a lidAdd water to the pan, enough to just almost but not quite cover the foil-for one head of broccoli, put about one cup of water in the pan Put cut washed broccoli on top of the foil and put the pan on the stove on high and watch for the water to boilDon't let the water boil away completelyWhen the broccoli is bright green and somewhat soft to the touch, it's steamed and doneIt should take less than 10minutes.
Don't know where you are or what type of roof we're talking about, but I would say an elastomeric roof coating would do the trick.
