I have a one year old husky, very hyperIm trying to stop him jumping/getting on the sofa but everytime i tell him no or to get down he thinks im playing with him and starts running around the house for me to play. Any tips?
Yes dogs love sofas! my dog had this same exact behaviour problem, how I got her to stop was by buying a prop called a scat mat or scram mat,its a plastic type mat you place on top of your sofa so when little rover jumps up on your sofa it emits little electrical static type shock(totally harmless)and dogs dont like that sensation they stay off your sofa,it worked on my dog, usually they sell for like $25 or so,try it out.Good Luck!
Use a clicker and train him. How?: Clicker and treats. Whenever he gets off the sofa, press the clicker and tell him a compliment and give him a treat. Keep practicing while saying OFF or NO. As you do that get the clicker and keep repeating. As you do this for a while, WITHOUT treats or clicker, he'll get used to it. OR make sure he gets full exercise and gets TIRED. Then, he might be too tired to get on. If he begs for treats, use a hand signal for SHH, and a hand signal for OFF. Maybe a signal for NO, just in case. Hope this helps!
The first thing you need to know is what kind of training you and your dog need. After that locate some good trainers that will take you and your dog, not just the dog.
Have him drag a leash when you are home with him, in the house. Just as you would when you are training him to walk politely (right?), give him a sidewards corrective tug on the training collar, and tell him OFF. He needs a lot more exercise than he is getting - take him out in the yard and play with him, and then back in to learn some house manners. If you aren't able to follow a schedule of this, and get him to an obedience course right away, this may not be the right place for him. Sibes are a lot of dog, and at his age, he is in grave danger of ending up at the pound and at the wrong end of it, at that - if he is not taught to be a gentleman FAST.
