Question:

hydrogen fuel cell vehicles vs. gas powered vehicles?

does hydrogen fueled vehicles benefit us in anyways? which do you think we should have more of?any views for either one?

Answer:

Hydrogen gas is not for armatures. It is the most explosive gas there is. It leaks through most hoses and connectors. It is very dangerous.
Since fuel cells act like Batteries I would imagine that batteries are just as efficient. It would depend on how the battery was charged. Batteries would be cheaper to invest research money into and would have faster advancements. This would give longer range and fast recharge times. If you could recharge your battery close to the time that it takes you to refill your hydrogen or natural gas tank, which tech is smarter and cheaper and can be delivered faster. Don't get sucked into fuel cells. They just want to drag there feet so they don't have to reduce our oil dependency until the low hanging fruit is gone while gouging us with price hikes.
I'd put my bets on battery / electric cars before fuel cells for the following two reasons. 1) Hydrogen Fuel cell tech is expensive. I'm uncertain as to why, but the best fuel cell tech out there uses platinum. Might as well figure out how to make fuel out of bald eagle feathers and faberge eggs. 2) Hydrogen is not naturally occuring. Which means we have to spend energy to produce, store, and transport hydrogen. Another user said cell vehicles are 45% efficient while ICE vehicles are 16%. Since the cells need hydrogen, that would mean hydrogen production is any less than 16%, we're as bad or worse for going that route. So the questions are Why would we spend energy mining hydrogen rather than sending it directly through the grid to the car's battery? Are affordable (non platinum using) energy cells REALLY within reach?
