As f100 said, they are two different wrenches. A monkey wrench is used for hex pipe fittings or other large hex bolts or nuts. It does not have serrated jaws does not flex much. It does not work on round pipe fittings because there's nothing to grip the pipe with. And yes, ;) if you use it with your left hand you have a left-handed wrench. If you use it with your right hand .

The inventor of the wrench, Ey Gudasahammer was a German peasant born in 1831. He was a hard worker, but could never work hard enough for the love of his life, who he often lovingly called a wrench, because she strangled his finances from him at every shop in town. Eventually she left him for a shoe salesman, and to overcome his grief, he became a monk in a monastery. After many years of isolated but manly work, he finally invented the thing that earned him fame and fortune. He called it a wrench, after his first love, because it has a firm and powerful grip. The other monks of course were proud of his invention, and commonly called it the Monk Ey Wrench.
