So I was taking my processor out of my motherboard to wrap it in some aluminum foil (I had to RMA my MoBo and I lost the original packaging), and in the process, the processor fell a meter or so onto a hardwood floor, contact side down if I recall correctly.I'm an idiot, I knowBut I won't be able to test the CPU until I get a new MoBo next weekWhat are the chances of the CPU being damaged from this fall?
If the CPU passes visual inspection (no cracks on the heatspreader or PCB), the drop probably didn't harm itHowever, wrapping it in aluminum foil was a bad ideaStatic electricity can fry chips, and aluminum foil only invites itNext time, try using an antistatic bag (or at the very least something not anywhere near as conductive, such as a ziplock bag).
for the first thing the buzzing you hear is probably the transformer, if it's an old one they can start making a buzzing noise, but can work for years with no problem other than the noiseas far as the cold airyou say you have a heat-pumpit will go into a defrost mode every once in a while, on a set time or by a sensornormally about 2 time an hourduring defrost the hp turns back into an air conditioner, at that time the electric heat strips should come on so you don't fell the coldthe same heat strips should come on when you turn it to emergency heatwhen you turn off the breaker you reset the timer on the defrostthat's why it works for a little whilethe next time it does this.(not heating) go outside and see if the outside unit is running if it's not you have a problem with the outside unitif it is running than the problem is with the electric heat strips or the t-stat is not turning them onif you do not have any heat when you turn it to emergency you definitely have a problem with the heat strips or a relay or t-stat or t-stat wire or you don't have any heat strips I'm good but I can't diagnose everything without seeing it have your land lord call a different company to come look at it
